I painted this image to acknowledge all the babies that have only touched our world through their mother’s womb. Each one of these spirits had a strong silent connection to their mother. Their early departures are rarely acknowledged and discussed and often they are unknown to friends and family. This silence – full of incomprehension and taboo - only deepens the feelings of loneliness, sadness, despair and grief of the mothers.
I was hoping by painting this to create an outlet for all of us to express feelings, share emotions and stories and make this subject not so untouchable as most women will know such a grief in their life. (Statistics show that 89% of women will have miscarriage and 35% an abortion in their life)
